Is there any reward for good other than Good. (55:60) In December 2016, a group of passionate Youth comprising both genders bothered about the decaying state of education in their locality decided to come together and contribute their quota regardless of how miniscule the impact will be. Or so they taught. Ably marshaled by the seasoned educationist in Mrs Sa'adah Aboubakar, they decided to use an Islamiyyah in Badarawa Kaduna as venue which they had to renovate. The decision to choose Badarawa was to make logistics easier for most of the enrolled students whom were from not so privileged backgrounds. The volunteers were of varying backgrounds, from Engineers to Architect to Chemist to Accountants, Computer scientist, Anatomist to Geographer, undergraduates and so on. It was decided to concentrate on basic reading and writing, phonetics and basic science as these are fundamentally the bedrock of basic education. The volunteers had differing reasons for volunteering, f...

Opinion on State of insecurity

Nigerian Armed forces are overwhelmed and overstretched. Our Army can't continue doing Police work whilst the police continue to be glorified thugs and water carriers for politicians. Policing is the key to every serious nation's internal security. Our redemption lies with our police force, and not the Army. The Government should immediately proffer a roadmap to reforming our police force and Intelligence agencies. There lies the solution to our current security quagmire. Herdsmen, Kidnapping, Militancy, Cultism. Boko Haram and Banditry are a shock therapy for the North & the nation to get their acts together. These pathologies came at a huge cost for the Northern society, however, just as iron has to go through fire to be purified, so did we & by God we're coming out stronger. The Nigerian Army has evolved into a very competent and effective counterinsurgency force. Arguably one of the best in the world in dealing with insurgency. Despite all the challenges which ...

My Experience as a Volunteer Teacher. It is said that education is the best legacy. It is also said that if you consider education expensive, then try ignorance. Ignorance was simply a high and also unacceptable price to pay. Driven by patriotic zeal and concern for our immediate society, a group of youths came together to run a voluntary teaching programme to at least give their own quota in nation building and make an impact in the lives of some children of the not so privileged. The programme began in January 2016 at Badarawa shagari road as take off venue. It was over subscribed and especially amongst the mothers, the enthusiasm to get their children enrolled was unprecedented. The programme concentrated on areas of basic reading and writing, spelling and grammar. Months later, a significant improvement was noticed in the aforementioned areas, but most importantly, the students showed so much enthusiasm for learning. They truly understood education to be the great equalizer an...

America and Israel; A Tale of Two Cultures By Najeeb Wali EDITOR Jul 11, 2014 12:54 pm 0 Many an analyst at times ask a billion dollar question; why does the USA irrationally support Israel? The question above has puzzled billions of minds from multiple generations, the irony is, the answer stares right in our Face. Israel and the US share a strikingly similar mentality and History. The US strong belief in “Manifest destiny” strongly Mirrors the Israeli belief of them being the “chosen people” who is the bedrock of both cultures inherent racism and it, they find justification. The US was founded on Native American Land via a policy of Systematic genocides, it was brutal, using every means at their disposal. The Americas prior to the arrival of the settlers was a thriving civilization with cities as advanced as Europe and a Population exceeding Europe. The settler, to justify their actions perpetuated the fallacy of going on a “civilizing” mission, calling the natives “S...
