My Experience as a Volunteer Teacher. It is said that education is the best legacy. It is also said that if you consider education expensive, then try ignorance. Ignorance was simply a high and also unacceptable price to pay. Driven by patriotic zeal and concern for our immediate society, a group of youths came together to run a voluntary teaching programme to at least give their own quota in nation building and make an impact in the lives of some children of the not so privileged. The programme began in January 2016 at Badarawa shagari road as take off venue. It was over subscribed and especially amongst the mothers, the enthusiasm to get their children enrolled was unprecedented. The programme concentrated on areas of basic reading and writing, spelling and grammar. Months later, a significant improvement was noticed in the aforementioned areas, but most importantly, the students showed so much enthusiasm for learning.
