Imagination and the Soul of the Individual and Society.

Image
"Just as a mental form, such as a dogma or a doctrine, can be an adequate, albeit limited, reflection of a Divine Truth, so a sensible form can retrace a truth or a reality which transcends both the plane of sensible forms and the plane of thought." –Titus Burckhardt "Imagination is more important than knowledge, for knowledge is limited whereas imagination embraces the entire world, simulating progress' -Albert Einstein. - It is in the very nature of Man to replicate and mirror his/her external world. As the cosmos is so finely tunes, man aims to achieve point of resonance between his internal and the exterior world, and thus, a Man, society or civilization at peace with itself, resonate and manifest that which is divinely turned. This is a phenomenon found across civilizations and religion. The rituals of Islamic practices are all connected to a divine presence either by the positions of the stars, circumambulation during pilgrimage like the movement of cele...

Post NYSC Depression, 'Quarter life Crisis' and the struggle of the Nigerian Youth.

Post NYSC Depression, 'Quarter life Crisis' and the struggle of the Nigerian Youth. Knowledge is power, we´re told. Seek and ye shall find, they said. You accepted these words of wisdom, and embark on the decades-long journey. The journey of seeking education. High school is filled with its juvenile delinquency, but still- it is education. You fight and won the war of entrance examinations, you look to the skies with all your fingers crossed that you will be granted an admission, and it will be your dream course. The knowledge that is promised to give you power. The results have been announced and the odds are in your favour, so you embark on the seeking, believing that you will find. The best description of yourself in university is “a wayfarer sacrificing everything to get the promise of tomorrow”. You are unsure of tomorrow, but you’re told it is bright, that you´re only a certificate away. Graduate and ye shall prosper. You are excited, you can´t wait for that day w...

LGBT+ Agitations and Arewa Society

Image
The concept of society denotes a mutual and voluntary aggregation of individuals within a laid down structure, ecosystem and paradigm assuring and encouraging the optimal survival and utility of the inhabitants. Thus laws, cultures, norms and beliefs evolve over generations to safeguard against threats whether they are physical, psychological, social, economical or cultural. For the optimal functioning of such society, the individual must be placed in a hierarchy and above all, his rights and interests must be subservient to the interests of the society. This paradigm is not unique to humans, it is also observed in other species like Bees and Termites where the colony serves the queen and prioritizes her survival with their lives if necessary to assure her survival and protect against the danger of they becoming 'genetic dead ends.’ Our society is at a critical juncture, fresh from the sexual revolution of the 1960's, the invention of the Birth control pill and the US sup...

Is there any reward for good other than Good. (55:60) In December 2016, a group of passionate Youth comprising both genders bothered about the decaying state of education in their locality decided to come together and contribute their quota regardless of how miniscule the impact will be. Or so they taught. Ably marshaled by the seasoned educationist in Mrs Sa'adah Aboubakar, they decided to use an Islamiyyah in Badarawa Kaduna as venue which they had to renovate. The decision to choose Badarawa was to make logistics easier for most of the enrolled students whom were from not so privileged backgrounds. The volunteers were of varying backgrounds, from Engineers to Architect to Chemist to Accountants, Computer scientist, Anatomist to Geographer, undergraduates and so on. It was decided to concentrate on basic reading and writing, phonetics and basic science as these are fundamentally the bedrock of basic education. The volunteers had differing reasons for volunteering, f...

A Poem for newly weds;

The Novelty will soon fade away. Reality Will dawn, prepare for the day, Hope you won't sway? When she stops blowing your mind away, For surely, She has come to stay.

Opinion on State of insecurity

Nigerian Armed forces are overwhelmed and overstretched. Our Army can't continue doing Police work whilst the police continue to be glorified thugs and water carriers for politicians. Policing is the key to every serious nation's internal security. Our redemption lies with our police force, and not the Army. The Government should immediately proffer a roadmap to reforming our police force and Intelligence agencies. There lies the solution to our current security quagmire. Herdsmen, Kidnapping, Militancy, Cultism. Boko Haram and Banditry are a shock therapy for the North & the nation to get their acts together. These pathologies came at a huge cost for the Northern society, however, just as iron has to go through fire to be purified, so did we & by God we're coming out stronger. The Nigerian Army has evolved into a very competent and effective counterinsurgency force. Arguably one of the best in the world in dealing with insurgency. Despite all the challenges which ...

My Experience as a Volunteer Teacher.

Image
My Experience as a Volunteer Teacher. It is said that education is the best legacy. It is also said that if you consider education expensive, then try ignorance. Ignorance was simply a high and also unacceptable price to pay. Driven by patriotic zeal and concern for our immediate society, a group of youths came together to run a voluntary teaching programme to at least give their own quota in nation building and make an impact in the lives of some children of the not so privileged. The programme began in January 2016 at Badarawa shagari road as take off venue. It was over subscribed and especially amongst the mothers, the enthusiasm to get their children enrolled was unprecedented. The programme concentrated on areas of basic reading and writing, spelling and grammar. Months later, a significant improvement was noticed in the aforementioned areas, but most importantly, the students showed so much enthusiasm for learning. They truly understood education to be the great equalizer an...
